I liked the Kranky one you sent me. Since my 30's one of my favorite bands has become Low. They've been around since the mid 90's and are not shoegaze but more known as slowcore. You can't go wrong with anything in their catalog but this is one of my favorites

Your tastes kind of remind me of a Danish band Mew, they have had different kinds of sounds but their earliest stuff leans more shoegaze.
Right out of college one of my favorite bands was 16 Horsepower, described as gothic country. They are not listed as any type of metal but you get black metal vibes from some of their stuff.
